Ariel Nasr is a well-known Canadian filmmaker from Afghan Background. His earlier films as “The Boxing Girls of Kabul” portrayed the lives of Afghans and the challenges facing its most disenfranchised. The Forbidden Reel directed by Ariel Nasr takes a similar journey to uncover and narrates a story of contemporary Afghan Cinema which has been influenced by modern Afghan chaotic history especially during the past 50 years. The documentary is a must watch for film scholars, film enthusiasts and anyone with interest in multi-faceted and complex nature of national cinemas and the resiliency of Afghan filmmakers who helped it to survive and thrive under challenging conditions.”
