SXSW Festival | Travis Stevens discusses making of Jakob’s Wife (2021)

Veteran horror actors Barbara Crampton and Larry Fessenden, who previously worked together on You’re Next, join the directorial forces of Travis Stevens in Jakob’s Wife to fight vampires and fix their stale marriage. This is a quite exciting and puzzling film to watch. The film doesn’t follow any particular political demands of the time regarding gender norms. It brings together conservatism and progressive thoughts in gender discourse, presents them and joyfully plays with them and even subverts them. This gives the spectator a simultaneous sense of guilt and pleasure while watching the film. You are uncertain of what you have to decide at the end of the film, a certainty very uncommon in the recent revision of horror films. Premiered at SXSW, Jacob’s Wife is now available in theatres and on VOD and Digital. We had the chance to talk with the director to discuss his vision of making the film.
